Edwin Baaske

Edwin Baaske is a native of Hamburg now living in Stuttgart. Like many of his peers, his experience with the Beetle began as a child standing in the luggage compartment behind the rear seat. After posts on the island of Föhr in the North Sea, in Husum, and in Hamburg, he is currently senior editor of the automobile magazine Gute Fahrt.  
     Volkswagen Beetle: Portrait of a Legend is an outgrowth of this work studying the changing shape of the automobile. What really drew him to this project, however, was an opportunity to use the Beetle as a time machine: to capture the flair of the ‘30s and ‘40s as well as the elegance of the ‘50s and ‘60s.
