John Dugdale

John Dugdale started his career as a journalist with Autocar magazine in 1933. After service in World War II during which he won the British Military Cross, he joined the motor industry with the Rootes Group in New York and later became Western manager for Jaguar. After six years representing the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders as executive vice-president of the British Automobile Manufacturers Association in New York, he rejoined Jaguar in 1966 as vice-president advertising and PR and became national product publicity manager for the combined British Leyland company until his retirement in 1980. He edited Jaguar Journal for the company through 1991.

John Dugdale wrote on motoring subjects for publications such as the London Times and Road & Track and was an accomplished artist. He edited The Years of Achievement of the British Motor Industry and Automobile Business quarterly (1962-66). Other works were Great Motor Sport of the Thirties 1977) and An Artobiography (2000). He died in May, 2000.
