There may be hundreds of books on BMW's road cars, but detailed accounts of the company's motorsport escapades are a rare find, other than the odd chapter on a few models or decades in BMW's long tradition of racing. Jeremy Walton's Unbeatable BMW, out of print for many years, fills this void.

The book encompasses the entire BMW competition history, from the pre-war 328 to the recent McLaren F1 GTR. Chapters progress chronologically, providing coverage of all the key people, places and machines. Of course, the most well-known 328s, CSLs, M1s and E30 M3s are included, but Walton also focuses on many more obscure machines. Few know, for example, that before the well-known 2002s raced, BMW's funky little 700 coupes made competitive race cars, claiming 22 victories between 1960 and 1965 with Hans Stuck, Jacky Ickx and others.

Unbeatable BMW is a must for the BMW aficionado. Such a complete account of Munich's marque in racing has never been assembled between two covers before.
