An impressive book that illustrates the early days of the Porsche company through exclusive photographs
Porsche books from the pen of renowned American automotive historian Karl Ludvigsen are not only bestsellers. They also set new standards for the portrayal of Porsche brand history. Ludvigsen's most recent work Porsche - Origin of the Species (available in English only), has a special treat in store: one-of-a-kind pictures of the newly restored, original 356 Gmünd Coupe (356/2/40) that belonged to motor racer Otto Mathé and which now forms part of Jerry Seinfeld's collection. The comedian and avowed Porsche enthusiast contributed the foreword as well. Over the course of the volume's 356 pages (no coincidence), Karl Ludvigsen traces the development of the sports car manufacturer, with a special focus on those automobiles built before and during World War II that influenced the design of the 356. It also takes a look at how Porsche came to build its first series-produced sports car in a sawmill in the Austrian town of Gmünd.
